How I warmed up with FAI (hip impingement) before lifting weights

I suffer from FAI (femoroacetabular impingement), more commonly referred to as hip impingement. It causes pain when I’m trying to perform squats or any other movement that requires a full range of hip movement. It’s not stopping me though. I’m still able to do most movements, so long as I warmup properly and stay on top of my mobility exercises.

This short video shows how I warmed up before performing barbell back squats. The primary objectives were to mobilize the hip (using a heavy band) and activate the glutes, with special attention being given to the gluteus minimus. Note that there are many ways to achieve this and this video is just an example of what I did on a particular day.

FYI every workout in my fitness app includes a suggested warmup. It also has a list of my favorite warmup and mobility movements and several hip/glute related workouts.
